Founded in 1942 Glad Tidings Assembly of God stands as a testament to unwavering faith. Its history is rich with stories of revival and resilience. This very spot has witnessed decades of powerful prayer sessions. It has been a sanctuary for countless souls seeking solace and spiritual guidance.

Glad Tidings Assembly of God isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant community. For over sixty years it has served the Houston community. It offers a welcoming space for people from all walks of life. The church follows a simple ‘come as you are’ philosophy. Its doors are open to anyone seeking spiritual comfort.

The church’s beginnings are deeply rooted in the Pentecostal movement. Rev Willie Houston Summerall played a pivotal role in its formation. He led a merger of two congregations in 1942. Under his leadership Glad Tidings Assembly of God found its footing and began to flourish. He pastored the church until 1948.

Following Rev Summerall’s tenure the church saw a succession of pastors. Each leader brought their own unique strengths and vision. Rev Grady Q Manley led the congregation for 23 years. During his time the church acquired its current property. He oversaw the construction of Manley Chapel the church’s original building. The 1950s and 1960s were a time of significant growth. Powerful revivals swept through the congregation. The church experienced a remarkable surge in membership.

Later pastors continued the church’s expansion. Rev Laurell Akers oversaw the construction of the Life Center and the current sanctuary. David Schultz served as pastor for several years. The Durhams then led the church for seventeen years. Their tenure saw the church pay off its property debt. They also spearheaded the development of a new entrance and a state-of-the-art sign. The church reached unprecedented heights in mission giving during their leadership. Following them Pastor John Durham faced many challenges including a rare illness. Yet the congregation remained steadfast. The church continued to grow in strength.

More recently in 2019 Glad Tidings elected its current pastors Sam and Briana Reynolds. They led the church through a significant transition. Glad Tidings Assembly of God re-located. It also adopted a new name Discovery Church Cypress. They continue the legacy of faith service and community engagement.
