Let’s delve into the origins of Sungshin Girls’ High School. The school was founded by Rev. Kwun Jae-chan in 1971. The Sungshin School Foundation received approval on May 28, 1971. That same day, Rev. Lee Young-kwang became the inaugural chairman.

Construction soon followed. By December 20, 1971, the first building was complete. It had four floors and twenty classrooms. Sungshin Girls’ Middle School was established on December 31, 1971. It began with eighteen classes.

A year later, Sungshin Girls’ High School received approval. This was on December 26, 1972. It started with fifteen classes. The high school officially opened on March 3, 1973. There were five classes at the opening ceremony. Rev. Park Bo-young was appointed as the first principal on April 18, 1973.

The first graduating class was on January 20, 1976. 252 students graduated. The Simwon Hall was built in 2001. Construction of the sixth building finished on December 30, 2002. It included four floors and twenty classrooms. Rev. Kwon Seung-ho became the fourth chairman on June 3, 2010.

In January 2023, Sungshin Girls’ High School held its 48th graduation. 208 students graduated. The total number of graduates reached 20,781. On March 1, 2023, Kim Yun-kyung became the eighth principal.

The school’s symbols also hold significance. The school tree is the ginkgo. The school flower is the rose. These symbols embody Sungshin’s spirit.
