A challenging climb awaits you at Guiby Peak. Guiby Peak is a formidable peak located near Saint Pierre in Mauritius. It’s part of the Moka mountain range. It’s a hidden gem known for its demanding trails.

Guiby Peak isn’t for the faint of heart. The initial ascent involves navigating a gully. This gully has no marked path. You’ll have to push through dense Chinese guava trees. The higher you climb the thicker the trees become. An alternative route exists. It traverses private deer farming land. The watchful farmer will likely prevent your passage.

The hike begins near the Le Pouce mountain trailhead. You’ll walk past cane fields. You’ll also pass a small corrugated iron shack. Then you’ll enter the woods. There’s no obvious trail. You should aim for a gully. Follow it upwards. The gully can be steep. It may even fork at times. Find the easiest way to continue your ascent.

Near the top a cliff band appears. You have to maneuver around it. You’ll then use Chinese guava trees as handholds. They’ll help you to reach the saddle. From the saddle the views are breathtaking. You’ll see Saint Pierre to the south and Pailles to the north.

Beyond the saddle the ridge narrows. It becomes steeper and windier. You’ll use shrubs as handholds. A large rock slab will test your skills. The officially mapped GPS trail ends here. Reaching the summit requires more advanced climbing gear. Rumors exist about an alternative route. It supposedly begins on the Moka side. This route remains unexplored.

Guiby Peak offers a thrilling adventure for experienced hikers. It demands skill. It also demands determination. The views however are unforgettable. The challenge is worth it for the exceptional panoramic vistas. Remember that safety is paramount. Guiby Peak requires respect. It isn’t a stroll in the park. It’s a true mountain adventure.
