Established in 1947 the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus stands as a testament to the Augustinian Recollects commitment to education. This campus in Cebu City didn’t begin as a grand university. It started small. It began offering secondary education as Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos. The school’s growth was remarkable. By 1984 it achieved university status. It became a center for academic excellence in Cebu.

The Basak Campus itself wasn’t always here. The main campus originally held all classes. Then in 1980 USJ-R purchased land in Basak Pardo. A new building for grade and high schools was built. The Recoletos Coliseum and a retreat house also appeared. The Basak Campus officially opened in June 1981. Elementary and high school departments transferred here. Soon the air-conditioned Recoletos Coliseum followed.

The Basak Campus offers a variety of programs. Information Technology is a popular choice. Hospitality and Tourism Management also thrive here.
