Established in 1936 The Moraitis School initially operated as the Standard Lyceum of Athens. Its founder Charles Beregean a mathematician envisioned a school that would prepare students for university. The school’s name changed to The Moraitis School in 1976. This reflects a change in ownership. Antonis Moraitis acquired the school in 1952. He significantly shaped its identity and educational philosophy.

The Moraitis School moved to its current location in Psychico a northern suburb of Athens in 1952. This move marked a significant expansion. The school now boasts impressive facilities. They cater to a large student body. The school currently accommodates 1700 students and 240 teachers across all grade levels. It offers a comprehensive curriculum. This includes kindergarten primary middle and high school.

The Moraitis School stands apart for its academic excellence. A remarkable 16% of its students achieve exceptionally high grades. They score more than 19 out of 20 in the Pan-Hellenic Examinations. About half the students score above 17 out of 20. The school also excels in the International Baccalaureate program. Its students consistently gain admission to prestigious universities globally. These include Oxbridge and Ivy League institutions.

Beyond academics The Moraitis School emphasizes extracurricular activities. It has a robust sports program. The school’s teams consistently perform well in both national and European competitions. The school has also fostered a thriving forensics or debating team. Its members have won awards in national and international tournaments. The school boasts an impressive array of clubs. Antonis Moraitis’s daughters Chrysanthi Moraiti-Kartali and Katerina Moraiti took over after his death in 1981. Tragically Katerina passed away in 1996. Chrysanthi continues to lead the school today along with Giorgos Kasimatis Antonis Kartalis and Giorgos Kartalis. They uphold the legacy of excellence. The Moraitis School remains a beacon of educational achievement in Athens. It is a testament to its founders’ vision. It also shows the enduring dedication of its leadership.
