From atop Yulin Pavilion, Chengdu unfolds like a painted scroll. The Yulin Pavilion is a six-story, octagonal tower, standing approximately 44 meters tall. It offers the best vantage point in the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. It’s a modern structure, built in the style of an ancient tower, giving it a timeless feel. Here on this hilltop, at the highest point of Yulin Mountain, you can grasp the grandeur of Dujiangyan. You can see the sprawling river in the distance and the entire irrigation system. It’s truly a breathtaking sight. Yulin Pavilion isn’t just a viewpoint. Each floor is a gallery, housing artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of Dujiangyan. The first floor, themed “Qianqiu Fengbei” showcases photos of party and state leaders visiting Dujiangyan. The second floor focuses on the “Humanistic Customs” of the region, featuring artwork, including Zhang Daqian’s “Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival” and Xu Beihong’s “Tianfu Silver Apricot”. The third floor, “Bright Moon and Clear Wind”, displays local folk tales carved in wood. The fourth, “Tang Dynasty Style and Song Dynasty Charm”, presents poems about Dujiangyan. The fifth, “Hankuguan Cangxiong,” features Han Dynasty brick carvings. The sixth, “Qin Water Flows Gold,” exhibits jade carvings, including “Li Bing Controlling the Water”. Even the plaques on Yulin Pavilion evoke the area’s rich history. “Ren Gui Yulin,” comes from Fan Chengda’s poem. “Tian Hui Yulin” is a verse from Li Bai. “Yulin Floating Clouds,” penned by Du Fu, adorns another plaque. The name Yulin Pavilion itself was chosen by Luo Jiezhi. Stepping inside Yulin Pavilion is an immersion in artistry. The carved beams and painted rafters, along with the intricate floral patterns adorning the pillars, create a visually stunning experience. As you ascend, the anticipation builds. Finally, you emerge onto the top floor. The view is simply magnificent. Yulin Pavilion, in its commanding position, offers a panorama of Chengdu, a tapestry woven from history, culture, and natural beauty.
