The Family Park’s story began in 1993. Former MCWD General Manager Father Francisco G. Silva initiated it. Construction started in 1996 with funding from Congressman Raul del Mar. The park opened to the public on May 8 1999. The Family Park was envisioned as a wholesome recreation site. It also promotes environmental conservation.
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District owns and operates The Family Park. MCWD is the primary water provider for Cebu City. The park sits on a 20-hectare property. MCWD began reforesting the area in 1983. The park complex is now surrounded by trees of various sizes.
Let’s explore The Family Park’s attractions. There are swimming pools for both children and adults. A picnic campsite invites families to relax. Kids will love the vast playground. A wildlife sanctuary and mini-zoo house native animals. Eagles ducks and a talking myna can be found here. You may also spot rabbits deer monkeys and even the Philippine leopard.
The Family Park also features a botanical research garden. A plant nursery is part of this garden. A multi-function clubhouse and pavilion host various events. The large covered stage is equipped with a modern sound system. The open field in front of the stage accommodates games concerts and other activities. Kiosks are available in the open field.
Don’t miss the one-hectare lagoon. It contains several species of fish. A jogger’s path encourages healthy exercise. The Family Park is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The entrance fee is Php15 for adults and Php10 for children. To maintain a family-friendly environment smoking and alcohol are discouraged.
