Founded in 1988 as the Asian Computer Institute ACI it quickly became a leading provider of computer literacy. Imagine Cebu City then only beginning to embrace computer technology. The founder Rodrigo A Abellanosa a Cebu City Congressman had a vision. He saw the potential of computers. He wanted to equip Cebu’s workforce. ACI’s success led to its incorporation as the Asian College of Technology in 1992. This marked a major expansion. The college began offering post-secondary and collegiate courses. These courses pioneered hands-on computer science education.
ACT didn’t stop there. In 1992 a South Campus opened. This expanded access to education. It also marked ACT’s commitment to serving the entire Cebu region. The ACT Integrated School ACT-IS followed in 1996. This brought preschool grade school and high school under one roof. It aimed to provide comprehensive education from the youngest age.
Growth continued. A half-billion-peso 15-story building the ACT Cyber Tower was completed in 2007. This iconic structure became a symbol of ACT’s progress. It showcased modern educational infrastructure in the heart of Cebu City. ACT’s commitment to advanced technology is further demonstrated by partnerships. For instance the establishment of the CISCO Network Academy and the Innobento Animation and Game Development Laboratory. These collaborations brought cutting-edge training opportunities to students.
ACT’s focus is on producing globally competitive individuals. This commitment has been validated. The college received numerous awards. These awards recognized ACT as the best computer school at city regional and national levels. Accreditation from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines FAAP further solidified ACT’s reputation for academic excellence. The Senior High School program added another layer to its offerings. Tracks included academic technical-vocational and arts and design.
From humble beginnings as a computer institute ACT has become a multi-faceted educational institution. It offers programs in computer science information technology hospitality management nursing and much more. ACT’s journey reflects Cebu City’s own remarkable growth.
