Was it destiny or pure chance that brought Humanitas University into existence? Today, we stand before a testament to medical innovation. It is a beacon of international education right here in Pieve Emanuele. Humanitas University also known as Hunimed is an Italian private university. It focuses on medical and biomedical sciences.
Since its legal recognition on June 20 2014, the university has grown. It has become a hub for aspiring medical professionals from around the globe. But the seeds of Humanitas University were sown much earlier. Since 1997 there was an agreement with the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan. This facilitated teaching activities for medical students within the Humanitas Research Hospital. Degree courses in nursing and medicine followed in 2000 and 2003.
Now imagine the year 2010. Humanitas established the International Medicine and Surgery Degree Program. It was taught in English. It was a collaboration with the University of Milan.
In 2014, the Humanitas Research Hospital and the Humanitas Foundation for Research wanted to establish Humanitas University. This private institution is dedicated to life sciences. It received legal recognition from the Italian Ministry of Education.
Consider 2016. Humanitas University launched a bachelor’s degree program in Physiotherapy. The new university campus was completed the following year. These buildings A B and C stand adjacent to the Humanitas Research Hospital.
Let us not forget 2018. The Mario Luzzatto Student House opened its doors. It provides accommodation for 240 students. The Humanitas Congress Center was completed in 2019.
In 2019 Humanitas University and the Polytechnic University of Milan collaborated. This led to the establishment of the MEDTEC School. It offers a master’s degree program in medicine and biomedical engineering. The master’s degree program in nursing and midwifery started the following year.
The Innovation Building called Building F was inaugurated in 2023. Bachelor’s degree programs in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques and Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques also commenced then.
Spread across approximately 42000 square meters the Humanitas University campus comprises six distinct buildings. Buildings A and F are teaching centers. Building B is a multifunctional hub. Building C houses a research center. Building D is a university residence with 240 beds. Building E contains specialized research laboratories. The campus also boasts a simulation center multimedia classrooms a library an auditorium and sports areas.
Humanitas University is part of the Humanitas Group. This private academic medical center focuses on integrated health care education and research. The Humanitas Group employs 8600 professionals. It operates a network of 21 multi-specialist outpatient clinics and 10 distinct hospitals in Italy.
The university provides a six-year course in Medicine and Surgery. It also provides a six-year degree program in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. Both are taught entirely in English. They offer bachelor’s degrees in Nursing Physiotherapy Biomedical Laboratory Techniques and Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques. These are all taught in Italian.
As post-graduate training the university offers residency in 24 different Medical Specialty Schools. It also provides 10 different post-graduate master’s degrees and 3 PhD programs.
Notably the Humanitas Research Center applies a translational research approach. It is in conjunction with Humanitas University and Hospital. The center hosts 400 international researchers. It features 10000 square meters of high-tech laboratories.
Humanitas University established a research center on artificial intelligence in 2018. It was the first of its kind in Italy. It is integrated with a hospital. The center brings together doctors managers researchers engineers and data scientists.
