Its journey began in the heart of Hollywood in 1973. The burgeoning Armenian community in California needed a spiritual anchor. The original Prelacy, headquartered in New York, couldn’t effectively oversee the growing needs of the western United States. The Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America was established to bridge that distance. Its first office, a modest space on Santa Monica Boulevard, marked the beginning of this vital mission. Later, as the community expanded, the Prelacy moved to a larger office on Russell Street, still in Hollywood. Finally, it found its permanent home here in La Crescenta, a testament to its growth and influence. This building, often referred to as “The People’s Home,” serves as the administrative center. From here, the Prelate and the Religious and Executive Councils guide the activities of the numerous churches and schools under the Western Prelacy’s jurisdiction. The Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America isn’t just an administrative body. It’s a vibrant hub of faith and culture, serving over half a million Armenian-Americans across the western United States. Its reach extends from California to Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Arizona. From the bustling streets of Los Angeles to the serene landscapes of the Rocky Mountains, the Western Prelacy provides spiritual guidance and support. The Western Prelacy oversees thirteen churches and several day schools. These institutions serve as vital centers for preserving Armenian traditions and values. The oldest church under its guidance, Holy Trinity Church in Fresno, dates back to 1900, a poignant reminder of the deep roots of Armenian Christianity in the western United States.
