Today we are standing before the Karadeniz Pool. What if I told you this pool is more than just a place to cool off?
The Karadeniz Pool is actually in the shape of the Black Sea itself. It was built in 1931 by none other than Atatürk. He really knew how to make a splash.
Atatürk Forestry Farm needed water. So between 1935 and 1936 a 15 kilometer water transmission line was constructed from Kırkgöz Catchment. This was to fill the Marmara and Karadeniz pools. Later, the water source was assigned to the Ankara Beer Factory. Then in 1939, it became property of TEKEL.
Two plane trees still stand tall near the Karadeniz Pool. Atatürk himself planted them. They have been preserved. Think of the stories these trees could tell if they could talk.
The historical Black Sea Pool underwent restoration. This was done during the construction of the State Elders Monumental Cemetery. Today, it serves as a peaceful resting area. The Black Sea Buffet offers food and drinks. This pool is accessible to everyone. It is located in Yenimahalle.
