In 1953 the South Philippine Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists was established. Cebu City became its headquarters. Pastor Gil de Guzman led the new union. He served from 1951 to 1954. This marked the beginning of the Seventh-day Adventist presence in Cebu that we see today.

The Central Philippine Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists CPUC stands proudly on Gorordo Avenue in Kamputhaw. It’s a significant landmark for the Adventist community. It’s part of a larger global organization the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. This shows the deep roots of the faith in Cebu. The CPUC’s history is rich. It began as a mission then became a conference. It reflects the growth and impact of Adventism in the region.

Twelve years later a change occurred. In 1965 another union field was needed. This time in Mindanao. The Cebu City office transformed into the Central Philippine Union Mission. Simultaneously a new union mission opened in Mindanao. This illustrates the spread of the Seventh-day Adventist message throughout the Philippines. This new mission encompassed four missions. These included the Central Visayan East Visayan West Visayan and Negros Missions. Three high schools also belonged to this growing organization. In 1965 the organization had 285 churches and 28869 members.

The CPUC has seen many leaders throughout the years. Pastor Eugenio Capobres was president until 1971. He was followed by Pastor Florencio Arrogante Pastor Leodegario Montaña and Pastor Dionisio Niere. Each leader contributed to the development of the church in Cebu. Pastor Hector Gayares served from 1988 to 1996. Pastor Alberto Gulfan followed him. He led the transition to conference status in 1966. This continued growth demonstrated the church’s influence. Subsequent leaders included Pastors Jimuel Toledanes Agapito Catane and Joer Barlizo. Each has added their unique contributions to the CPUC’s legacy.

Today the Central Philippine Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists stands tall. It’s a testament to the dedication and faith of its members. It’s a place of worship and community. It’s a place where the Adventist message continues to be shared. The CPUC’s story is one of growth resilience and unwavering commitment. It is a significant part of Cebu City’s religious landscape. The church’s history is a fascinating journey. It’s a story of expansion faith and enduring service. It is a vibrant part of Cebu’s history.
