Here in Lamgong Gewog, nestled in the Paro Valley of Bhutan, stands Kyichu Lhakhang. This temple is one of 108 legendary temples built in a single day by the Tibetan King Songsten Gampo. He built these temples to subdue a giant demoness obstructing the spread of Buddhism. Lamgong Gewog itself is a gewog, or village block, within the Paro District. In 2002, it spanned 48.8 square kilometers and housed eight villages and 348 households. Kyichu Lhakhang is not just any temple. It’s one of Bhutan’s oldest, a sacred jewel dating back to the 7th century. Imagine the countless prayers that have echoed through its hallowed halls over the centuries.
