The campus itself has quite a history. The original buildings went up in the 1930s and 1940s. Fast forward to December 18, 2005. A brand new three-story building opened after years of planning.

Bell Gardens High School continued to evolve. In 2005, Lancer Stadium received a $1 million upgrade. The old dirt and grass field was replaced. A state-of-the-art synthetic turf playing field was installed. A new 400-meter track was added. This transformation finished in January 2006.

Bell Gardens High School boasts many notable alumni. Michael Granville set the 800-meter high school national record. His time was an impressive 1:46.45. Bob Bedell was a basketball star. He led his team to back-to-back CIF championships in 1961 and 1962. Patty Cardenas won an Olympic medal in water polo in 2002. Eddie Cochran, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, also walked these halls. Lawrence “DJ Muggs” Muggerud of Cypress Hill is another famous graduate. John Force is a 16-time NHRA drag racing champion. Brenda Villa is a three-time Olympic medal winner in water polo. Hector Jiménez won two MLS Cup championships with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Johnny Lee Clary, also known as Johnny Angel, was a professional wrestling champion. He was a former KKK leader turned evangelist.

Bell Gardens High School’s team name is the Lancers. Their rival is Montebello High School. The school newspaper is called the Lancer Scroll. Hector Velasquez is the current principal. As of 2022-2023, the school had an enrollment of 2,217 students.
