A vibrant community hub stands before you. This is Rose Hill Primary School. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where countless stories unfolded.

Rose Hill Primary School in Oxford opened its doors long ago. This welcoming school served the Rose Hill community for many years. It was a community school providing education for children aged 3 to 11. The school had a capacity of 420 pupils. But sadly it closed its doors on August 31 2018. The reason? To become an academy.

Think of the laughter echoing through the hallways. Picture the tiny hands gripping crayons. Imagine the first day jitters. Thousands of children learned and grew within these walls. They explored their creativity in classrooms. They developed friendships on the playground. This place saw generations of students blossom into young adults.

For years Mrs Sue Vermes served as headteacher. She led with dedication and passion. She guided many students through their primary years. Her leadership helped shape the school’s identity. Then came Miss Rhiannon Wilkie. She took the reins after the transition to an academy. She continued the legacy of quality education at Rose Hill Primary School. The school is now part of the River Learning Trust. A strong network of schools working together.

Rose Hill Primary also provided nursery classes. It was inclusive welcoming pupils from diverse backgrounds. In fact some pupils spoke over 37 different languages. This reflected the rich tapestry of the Oxford community. The school even boasted a forest school. An outdoor learning environment where children learned about nature.

The transition to an academy was not without challenges. Some students were eligible for free school meals. In 2019 21.7% of students qualified. In 2025 the percentage increased to 44%. This highlighted the evolving needs of the community.

Rose Hill Primary School may be closed but its legacy continues. The memories the friendships the lessons learned all remain. It played an integral role in shaping the community. The school’s story is a testament to its people. It’s a story of growth learning and resilience.
