Founded in 1911 the Cebu Technological University stands proudly before you. Its history is rich and layered like the ancient coral reefs off Cebu’s shores. Originally the Cebu Trade School it trained students in practical skills. Imagine young Filipinos learning carpentry or tailoring. They were building a nation brick by brick stitch by stitch.
In 1928 the school moved to its present location near the Port of Cebu. A neoclassical building was constructed. Each column was topped with a statue. These represented the arts and trades. Sadly this beautiful building is now hidden. It’s obscured by newer structures.
The school’s name changed many times. It became the Cebu School of Arts and Trades. Later it evolved into Cebu State College of Science and Technology. Finally in 2009 it was granted university status. This was thanks to Republic Act 9744. This marked a turning point. The institution transformed into the comprehensive Cebu Technological University we see today.
World War II left its mark. Buildings were damaged. Classes were held in makeshift classrooms. Yet the spirit of learning persevered. The university reopened its doors. It expanded its offerings. It started admitting female students.
The university’s growth was remarkable. It became a system of 23 campuses across Cebu province. It offers a wide range of programs. These cater to diverse interests and aspirations. From agriculture to technology the university empowers students. It equips them for a rapidly changing world.
Today Cebu Technological University is a center of excellence. It’s recognized nationally and internationally. It’s been awarded three stars by Quacquarelli Symonds. This is a prestigious global ranking. The university is proud of its achievements. It’s committed to its students’ success.
The Cebu Technological University is more than just a school. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a testament to the power of education. It is a beacon of hope for the future. It embodies the spirit of innovation and progress in the heart of Cebu City. It’s a place where dreams are nurtured. It’s a place where futures are forged. It’s a place where history lives and breathes.
