Deep in the heart of Nice, La Station pulses with creative energy. La Station is more than just a space. It is a catalyst for contemporary art.

La Station’s story began in 1996. It started with Cédric Teisseire, Pascal Broccolichi, and Florence Forterre. They founded the association STARTER. Initially, La Station was housed in an old gas station. This former gas station on Boulevard Gambetta gave La Station its name. Over time, La Station moved. It adapted to the spaces that welcomed it.

In October 2009, La Station found a new home. It settled in the southern hall of Nice’s former refrigerated warehouses. These renovated spaces cover 1,000 square meters. La Station divides its space into exhibition areas and workshops. The exhibition areas are open to the public for free. La Station hosts a dozen artists. These artists participate in the life, organization, and upkeep of La Station.

La Station aims to support and promote contemporary culture. It wants to showcase art from Nice and attract practices from France and Europe. La Station helps artists develop and promote their work. It acts as a link. This link connects artists, institutions, galleries, and the public. La Station adds value to the existing cultural landscape.

Exhibitions are a key part of La Station. They occur throughout the year. La Station also hosts special events. Performances, readings, concerts, and video projections are common. Conferences also take place here. Young artists find opportunities to showcase their work at La Station. They gain real-world exhibition experience. Established artists push their experimental research here. This intergenerational approach positions La Station as a professional platform. It connects artists to the practical aspects of the art world. La Station offers visibility to art lovers and professionals alike.

La Station extends its reach beyond its walls. It is often invited to design exhibitions. These exhibitions take place in France and abroad. Art centers and private galleries invite La Station. Self-managed structures also extend invitations. These off-site projects involve resident members. They collaborate with artists from Nice and elsewhere. These projects encourage exchange. Personal networks combine. These projects create connections between artists and structures. La Station has gained a national and European audience. It has a presence in Germany, Austria, Belgium, and more.

La Station is the base for the STARTER association. The association supports artists. It offers residencies. La Station’s program helps young artists grow. It allows established artists to explore. The space designs exhibitions both in France and internationally.

Visiting La Station, you support a vital hub. It is a place where art is made. It is a place where art is shared. It is a place where artists thrive.
