But don’t let that fool you. This chapel holds a significant place in Porto’s religious heritage. The Capela dos Passos was once part of a network of oratories belonging to the Convento dos Grilos. These oratories were strategically placed along the traditional route of the Senhor dos Passos procession during Lent. Imagine the streets of Porto filled with devoted followers during those processions. Sadly, the suppression of religious orders in 1834 led to the processions’ halt. Consequently, many oratories vanished over time. Today, only two remain as a testament to this rich tradition. The Capela dos Passos stands as a silent witness to Porto’s devout past.
