What echoes whisper within these walls? Here at Errant Sound, the very air vibrates with untold stories. Errant Sound isn’t just a gallery. It’s a living, breathing organism of sonic exploration. Founded in 2010 as Errant Bodies in the vibrant Prenzlauer Berg district, it quickly became a haven for experimental sound art. Errant Sound embraces a dynamic range of sonic expression, from performance and fieldwork to voice, radio, and spatial practices. This isn’t a place for the ordinary. It’s where artists push the boundaries of sound, experimenting with the very fabric of auditory perception. In 2013, a dedicated working group of artists, researchers, curators, and writers took the reins. Their mission was to cultivate a space where sonic research and sound practices could flourish. They transformed Errant Sound into a hub of creativity. Think exhibitions, presentations, events, residencies, and workshops, all designed to ignite dialogue and push the boundaries of sonic art. Errant Sound isn’t confined to these four walls. It spills out into the city, activating public spaces and other unexpected locations. They even hosted an intriguing exhibition and performance program titled “Poisogem” in July 2023, a collaboration with Sonoscopia from Porto and the Heroines of Sound Festival. The performances, featuring harp, voice, and electronics, were described as an “activation and amplification” of the installation, blurring the lines between the visible and the beyond. Errant Sound has called several places home throughout the years. From Prenzlauer Berg, it moved to Rungestrasse 20 in Mitte in 2019, before settling at Gerichtstrasse 45 in Wedding in 2024. Errant Sound stands as a testament to the power of sound. It’s a space where the experimental thrives, where the unconventional becomes the norm, and where the very air resonates with the echoes of sonic exploration. It’s a space where the past, present, and future of sound art collide, creating a vibrant tapestry of auditory experiences.
