Wayne County Community College Downtown Campus

Established in 1967, Wayne County Community College District, often called WC3, stands as a testament to accessible education. Right here, at the Downtown Campus, you’re experiencing a key part of that legacy. Wayne County Community College District was created by the Michigan State Legislature. Its first board of trustees was elected the following year. The initial budget included a one-million-dollar grant from the State of Michigan, $300,000 from New Detroit, Inc., and projected tuition. Initially, Wayne County Community College didn’t have its own buildings. They used classrooms provided by local school boards across Wayne County. The first classes were held in the summer of 1969. The College was officially renamed “Wayne County Community College District” in 1997. This reflected its expanding programs and services throughout Wayne County. The Downtown Campus, located at 801 West Fort Street, serves as a vital hub within the larger district. Wayne County Community College Downtown Campus offers a variety of programs. These range from career training to university transfer courses. This campus, along with five others, ensures accessibility to education across diverse communities in Wayne County. The district serves most areas of Wayne County. However, some places like Dearborn, Garden City, and Highland Park are not included in the district.
