Rosengårdsskolan is a primary school for grades F-6. It is located in the Herrgården area. About 300 students attend here. The school was built in 1972.
In the 1980s, Bengt Falk led the school. He even received Malmö city’s award for his efforts.
Sadly, Rosengårdsskolan faced challenges. Vandalism became a recurring problem in the mid-2010s. This led to the installation of camera surveillance. Academic performance was also a concern. In 2013, 69% of students leaving lower secondary school lacked the qualifications for upper secondary school. Poor working conditions further strained the situation. Consequently, the school’s upper secondary level was closed in 2013.
Despite these difficulties, Rosengårdsskolan remains a vital part of the community. It provides education for younger children. It is a place where they can grow and learn.
The Rosengård area itself has an interesting history. The residential area was developed around the Kockum family’s manor. It shares the same name. In 1911, construction began on Rosengårdsstaden. This area is near Jägersrovägen today. By the 1920s, it had expanded. In 1929, a tram line connected it to the rest of the city. The original Rosengårdsskolan was built in the southern part of this area in 1952.
In 1974, the original school changed its name to Rosenholmsskolan. This coincided with the completion of the new Rosengårdsskolan.
The modern Rosengård residential area was constructed during the 1960s and 1970s. Rosengård is divided into several districts today. These include Västra Kattarp and Hindby.
