Perhaps, you have heard that artists began gathering in the Beijing Songzhuang Art District in 1994. This area has transformed into the world’s largest contemporary art district. It is also the most creative and influential. Today we are standing in front of Songzhuang Contemporary Art Archive Museum.
The establishment of the Art Archive transformed the Beijing Songzhuang Cultural and Creative Industry Zone. It became a new landmark for cultural innovation. This archive provides comprehensive and detailed archival materials. The institution is a high point in the zone’s contemporary art development.
In August 2016 the government fully approved Art Archive. It registered it as a public institution. This was done with the Beijing Tongzhou District Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Art Archive covers a usable space of 4700 square meters. It has 3100 square meters of exhibition space on three floors. The Archive Collections Room covers 400 square meters. The Library and Reading Room covers 500 square meters. Offices cover 400 square meters and Collection and Auxiliary Space covers 300 square meters.
