Suspended high above you is the Riparium. This isn’t just any sculpture. It’s a breathtaking artwork crafted from eucalyptus trees. Roman de Salvo a San Diego artist created this masterpiece.

Imagine the sheer scale of it. Forty-five feet high and seventy feet wide. Large sections of eucalyptus trees sliced lengthwise form a natural wood web. This suspended trellis hangs overhead creating a unique gateway.

One end is partially framed by steel beams resting on cement blocks. The other end seems to float in mid-air suspended by cables. These long cables slope down from tall central posts. They resemble a ship’s mast and rigging. It’s a truly awe-inspiring sight.

The Riparium isn’t just visually stunning. It’s a symbol of San Diego’s commitment to public art. It stands in Ruocco Park a 3.3-acre bayfront space dedicated in September 2012. The park itself is a beautiful space. It features open green lawns contemporary benches and stunning views of the San Diego Bay and the city’s downtown skyline.

The park sits on the former site of the Harbor Seafood Mart. It’s a short walk from Seaport Village. You can easily spend an afternoon here enjoying the Riparium the park’s amenities and the fresh sea air.

So take a moment to appreciate the Riparium’s artistry. Notice the intricate way the eucalyptus slabs are connected. Feel the cool shade it casts on a sunny day. This unique public artwork is a testament to the creative spirit of San Diego. It’s a stunning piece of art a must-see for any visitor to this vibrant city. Remember this masterpiece of natural wood and steel. Remember the Riparium.
