Amidst the bustling energy of Ho Chi Minh City, find a sanctuary of serenity: Nhà Thờ Bình Phước. The story of Nhà Thờ Bình Phước begins in 1956 with a land purchase. Archbishop Simon-Hoa Nguyen Van Hien authorized Father Guimet, then pastor of Cha Tam Church, to acquire a plot of land. This 6,700 square meter area, previously owned by the SFDIC distillery, became the foundation for a new community. In May 1956, construction started on the first church building. Father Guimet, along with Father Clementê Nguyễn Văn Thạch, spearheaded the project. This initial structure served dual roles: a church and a school. By Christmas 1957, this “Church-School” was inaugurated by Archbishop Nguyen Van Hien. Nhà Thờ Bình Phước continued to be a hub for education. In 1966, Bình Phước elementary school was built adjacent to the church, further solidifying its role in the community. Many young people in the area attended this school, and their experiences at Bình Phước shaped their lives. The church also grew in stature. During this time, the Bình Tây parish, led by Father Clementê, was elevated to a full parish. Changes continued. In 1973, Father Clementê was transferred, and Father Tôma Nguyễn Văn Trí took his place on May 1st. Father Trí renamed Bình Tây parish to Bình Phước, the name we know today. Sadly, Father Tôma passed away in early 1985. On June 10, 1985, Father Giuse Maria Đoàn Văn Thành became the third pastor of Bình Phước parish. Under his leadership, the current church building was constructed, starting on August 27, 1986. The grand opening took place on July 12, 1987. The church expanded further with the addition of classrooms and parish halls, built between March 1 and April 21, 1990. The church tower, a defining feature of Nhà Thờ Bình Phước, was erected between November 23, 1993, and December 10, 1994. Father Thành’s time at Bình Phước concluded on June 21, 1995, when he was transferred to An Lạc parish. On June 24, 1996, Father André Vũ Bình Định became the fourth pastor of Nhà Thờ Bình Phước.
