Dare to imagine Sasel’s transformation. It evolved from a village to a vibrant Hamburg district. Today we stand before the Sasel-Haus. This building is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to community, culture, and continuous learning.

Sasel-Haus fosters culture and education. It encourages shared learning and creative experiences. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome here. The Sasel-Haus embraces new ideas. It actively collaborates within the community. It offers diverse courses. Fremdsprachen, artistic design and health are on offer. This forms the foundation of its offerings.

The Sasel-Haus has three “lighthouses”. These lighthouses drive its mission. First is pedagogical work. The Kita, the children’s reading club and projects like “Klassik ist klasse!” are included. Also “Musik von Anfang an” and baby concerts are included. This pedagogical work is viewed as lifelong learning.

Second, “ImPuls” offers theme-oriented events. These events address socio-political topics. It provides a platform for cultural participation. It gives stimulating impulses.

Third, the Sunday concerts offer a gateway to classical music. They preserve and promote classical chamber music. This concert series is the House’s excellent calling card. It is curated and trans-regional.

Sasel-Haus supports tolerance and good neighbourliness. It deepens personal relationships. It promotes international understanding and European integration. The Sasel-Haus opposes the exclusion of minorities. It stands against societal division. It fights against nationalistic tendencies in Germany and Europe.

The Sasel-Haus’s mission statement sets guidelines for cooperation. It defines how people work together here. Working at Sasel-Haus means commitment and joy. It means making personal contributions. High motivation ensures reliable teamwork. The Sasel-Haus encourages engagement with social issues. It fosters open communication. Non-violence is key to how people interact. This applies internally and externally. Professionalism guides processes, formats, and content. The goal is outstanding quality.

The Sasel-Haus responds to current developments. It shapes them with its program. Its formats stay pedagogically and artistically up-to-date. The mission statement shapes all activities. Its acceptance is essential for cooperation. This applies to teams, artists, teachers, sponsors, visitors and guests.

Sasel-Haus has a rich history. The Saseler Markt lacked historical structures. But the Sasel-Haus reminds us of the past. It was once part of a large farm. Konrad Reuter ran the Saselhof. He embraced modern farming. He ventured into politics. He helped develop the Alstertal area.

Julius Gilcher founded a homebuilding association. He bought land to prevent speculation. In 1919, he bought the Saselhof. More people moved to Alstertal. Sasel became Hamburg’s largest settlement.

In the 1920s, shops were built near the Saseler Markt. These shops met daily needs. In 1927, Sasel gained a town hall. It had a clock tower and chimes. A post office and fire station were added. In the 1930s, a gym was created. It was in the Saselhof’s former cowshed. There was a sports field and river bathing area.

Sasel became part of Hamburg in 1937/38. It lost its independence. The population grew. Property prices rose. Some old buildings were demolished. The Saseler Markt was once idyllic. The manor housed a daycare center. The cowshed became a gym. The gatehouse had a clock tower.

In the 1970s, profit and change took over. The gatehouse and other buildings disappeared. New, faceless buildings arose. The Alstertal shopping center increased traffic. Roads were widened. The Saseler Park inn vanished.

Some brick buildings survived. The renovated manor still houses a daycare center. The cowshed now contains the Sasel-Haus. The rebuilt town hall serves as a restaurant. Though Sasel’s historical center is changed, the Sasel-Haus remains. It is a place for culture, education, and community. It welcomes everyone. It preserves the spirit of Sasel’s past.
