Ever wondered where fashion meets history in Dearborn? Fairlane Town Center is your answer. Opened in 1976, Fairlane Town Center has been a shopping landmark. It is more than just a mall. It is a super-regional shopping center, a Detroit suburb gem.

Fairlane Town Center was developed by A. Alfred Taubman. It was part of a plan for super-regional malls in Detroit. Think of it as one of the original shopping destinations. Briarwood Mall, Lakeside Mall, and Twelve Oaks Mall were its siblings.

Imagine this: The Fairlane Town Center is next to The Henry Hotel. It is near the Fairlane Club and the University of Michigan–Dearborn. Also close are Henry Ford Community College and the Ford Motor Company HQ. Talk about prime real estate.

Originally, JCPenney and Sears were the mainstays. Hudson’s joined a bit later. An ice-skating rink and a five-screen movie theater added to the fun. A monorail even connected the mall to the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Sadly, the monorail stopped running in 1987.

Did you know Fairlane Town Center had the first Coffee Beanery? It opened here in 1978. Lord & Taylor arrived in 1978 too. Saks Fifth Avenue came in 1980.

Over time, Fairlane Town Center evolved. The ice rink became more movie screens. A food court was added in 1999. AMC Theatres took over from Star in 2006. A major renovation in 2007 brought new life.

H&M became a key store. New restaurants like BRAVO. Cucina Italiana and P.F. Chang’s China Bistro opened. Lord & Taylor closed in 2006. Sears closed in 2018.

The Fairlane Town Center boasts a unique design. It has two floors and a partial third floor. Skylights shaped like hexagons brighten the space. Two central courts once featured a stage and a fountain. The interior includes terrazzo tiles and wood trimmed glass railings.

In 2017, Ford Motor Company even had offices here. It occupied the former Lord & Taylor space. In 2023, Kohan Retail Investment Group bought the mall.

Today, Fairlane Town Center has over 125 stores and restaurants. Anchored by Macy’s and JCPenney, it offers a complete shopping experience. It’s conveniently located near expressways and the Detroit Metro Airport.

Fairlane Town Center is surrounded by upscale communities. It is close to many tourist spots and businesses. It remains a dominant shopping destination. So, come explore Fairlane Town Center where fashion and history blend.
