This beautiful house of worship, with its Gothic-style architecture and rich history, stands as a testament to the dedication of the early Baptist community in Albion. The year was 1882. Albion was experiencing a surge in residential development. The recently opened railway line to Sandgate, the bustling Albion Railway Station, and new estates popping up promised an influx of new residents. Recognizing the spiritual needs of this growing community, Reverend John Kingsford of the Jireh Baptist Church in Fortitude Valley, established a simple preaching station right here.
The Albion Baptist Church, as we see it today, was officially opened in June 1883. It stands as a symbol of the rapid growth of the Baptist community in those early years. The church quickly became the heart of the Baptist community in Albion. They celebrated their faith within its hallowed halls and served the community with unwavering devotion. Over the years, the Albion Baptist Church underwent several expansions and renovations. These changes accommodated the growing congregation and reflected the evolving needs of the community it served.
In 1915, a timber manse was added to the property. Later, in 1929, a timber hall was built at the rear, further expanding the church’s capacity to serve. The Albion Baptist Church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a beacon of hope, a center for outreach programs. It extended a helping hand to those in need within the community and beyond.
