Established on January 1 1988 Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Kuala Lumpur SMKAKL is a beacon of Islamic education in Kuala Lumpur. Initially students were housed temporarily in other schools. Both boys and girls attended separate locations. After five years SMKAKL finally moved to its own campus in Bandar Menjalara Kepong. The new building was impressive. It sat on 19 acres. The school boasted amenities including a mosque a dining hall dormitories for both boys and girls a large hall playing fields and housing for teachers and staff. It truly was a significant improvement.

The school’s motto Berilmu Beramal Berbakti meaning Knowledgeable Charitable and Dedicated reflects its commitment to holistic education. SMKAKL isn’t just about academics. It aims to foster moral character. The goal is to shape future leaders. Since 2014 SMKAKL has implemented the Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab TMUA program. TMUA combines the national curriculum the Integrated Tahfiz Curriculum and the Ulul Albab program. This program emphasizes Quranic encyclopedic and ijtihadik approaches to learning. The program aims for students to memorize the entire Quran. They should also understand its contents and develop critical thinking skills.
