“Court Debout” it was called. This name comes from its original shortness. The street connected the Rue d’Amiens to the old horse market. It was indeed a “court de bout” or short end. The name later evolved into “Court-Debout”.

The Cour Debout in Lille has witnessed centuries unfold. This urban public road in the Nord department has a story. It is a story of expansion, connection, and culinary delight.

The street is in the Lille-Centre district. It is a secondary road with light one-way traffic. You won’t find many shops here except at either end. It links the Rue d’Amiens to the Place du Vieux-Marché aux Chevaux.

In the early 18th century, two houses of Lille’s classical style were erected. They stood at number 9 and at the corner of Rue d’Amiens. Numbers 11 and 13 likely date from the same period. Their facades suffered significant alterations.

The Cour Debout’s history is linked to Lille’s expansion in 1603. The city’s boundary extended southwest. It replaced the old Porte du Molinel. This gate stood at the corner of Rue du Molinel and Rue de la Riviérette. The new gate was named Porte Notre-Dame. It was at the present-day Place Richebé.

Later, the Cour Debout lengthened. A block of houses went up southwest of Rue du Bleu Mouton. This reduced the horse market’s size.

Today, the Cour Debout is also known for a culinary gem. The restaurant “Le Court Debout” resides here. Chef Philippe Boutin offers traditional cuisine with modern touches. He learned to value simple products. He adds a touch of exoticism to his dishes. Benoît Bernard inspired him. Bernard taught him to respect ingredients.

Boutin recommends young chefs remain humble. He emphasizes the importance of both the dining room and the plate. He recalls his early career. He learned to work quickly in a busy Parisian brasserie.

The restaurant aims for a sharing experience. It wants people to enjoy moments with friends and family. Boutin was once a pastry chef. He enjoys working with Carambar. He creates a chocolate Carambar dessert.

Urban Bar offers a different experience at 22 Rue du Court Debout. It features a hidden terrace. It is a great spot for drinks. They offer a wide selection of beers and original cocktails.

So, as you stroll along the Cour Debout, remember its past. From a simple connection to a culinary destination. It has evolved. It offers flavors and experiences to cherish.
