“Is that a mirage?” a sun-baked traveler might ask, squinting at the shimmering sands of Glen Beach. Here, tucked away between granite boulders and the vibrant energy of Camps Bay, lies a hidden gem. Glen Beach isn’t truly a secret, as any local surfer will tell you. It’s a beloved escape, a place where the rhythm of the waves dictates the day. Glen Beach is nestled between Maiden’s Cove to the north and the bustling Camps Bay Beach to the south. The beach is somewhat secluded, hidden from the road by luxurious homes and lush vegetation. Accessing Glen Beach can be an adventure. Parking is limited, so be prepared to hunt for a spot or enjoy a scenic walk from Camps Bay. The soft white sand invites you to relax and soak up the sun. The turquoise waters, with their consistent 2-6 foot waves, beckon surfers of all levels. However, be cautious during high swells, as the waves can become powerful and dangerous. Glen Beach offers more than just surfing. It’s a place for beach volleyball, sunbathing, and even dog walking (outside of peak season and with proper cleanup, of course). While swimming isn’t recommended due to strong rip currents, a quick dip in the shore break can be refreshing. As the day winds down, Glen Beach transforms into a magical spot for sunset picnics. Afterwards, the vibrant bars and restaurants of Camps Bay offer a perfect end to a perfect day.
