Watch closely! That plane is landing right over Mai Khao Beach. This is just one of the many unique sights awaiting you at Sirinat National Park.

Sirinat National Park protects a stunning section of Phuket’s northwest coast. It became Thailand’s 32nd national park in 1981. Back then it was known as Nai Yang National Park. The name changed to Sirinat National Park in 1992.

The park covers 90 square kilometers. 22 square kilometers are on land. 68 square kilometers protect the marine environment. Sirinat National Park features four main beaches. These are Hat Nai Thon, Hat Nai Yang, Hat Mai Khao, and Hat Sai Kaeo. Did you know that Hat Mai Khao is Phuket’s longest beach? It stretches for approximately 9 to 10 km.

Sirinat is known for its well-preserved beaches. The park is also home to diverse ecosystems. Beach forests provide a natural windbreak. These forests help stabilize the sandy coastline. Common ironwood and tulip trees are some of the species found here. You might also spot a tropical almond or white barringtonia.

Birdwatchers will find much to admire in Sirinat. Keep an eye out for the magpie-robin or the common myna. Perhaps you will see a spotted dove or an Asian fairy-bluebird.

Sirinat National Park also includes mangrove forests. These forests are vital nurseries for marine life. Look closely and you may observe a monitor lizard. You might even glimpse a mangrove snake. Various fish species thrive here. Shrimp, mudskipper, mullet, and grouper all live in these waters.

Offshore, coral reefs teem with life. Plate coral, soft coral, sea fans, and sea anemones create a vibrant underwater world.

Sadly, Sirinat National Park faces conservation challenges. Sea turtles once nested here. Hat Mai Khao and Hat Nai Yang were important nesting areas. But, since 2013, no turtle eggs have been observed in the park. This is due to coastal development and other factors.

Despite these challenges, Sirinat National Park remains a special place. Its natural beauty is undeniable. The sight of planes landing over the beach is unforgettable. Its diverse ecosystems are worth exploring. Remember the importance of preserving this coastal treasure. Let’s hope that future generations can enjoy the beauty of Sirinat National Park.
