Evergreen Playground

Evergreen Playground. A place where laughter echoes and imaginations soar. It’s not just a playground. It’s a living testament to community spirit and the power of play. Evergreen Playground wasn’t always the vibrant hub it is today. In 1972, it began as a simple patch of land. A group of parents, envisioning a safe and fun space for their children, came together. They transformed that empty space into the first iteration of Evergreen Playground. Originally, it was known as Adventure Playground. It featured a swing, walkways, a big slide, and it was all designed to resemble a ship. Even in its early days, Evergreen Playground drew in crowds. About 500 children would regularly fill the playground, their parents reassured by the safe environment. The late 1990s brought a wave of regeneration to the surrounding estate. This revitalization extended to Evergreen Playground itself. Shell volunteers dedicated a week to renovating the playground. The once flat landscape was transformed, and the entrance was repositioned to open directly into the estate. This renovation increased the playground’s popularity, attracting around 700 children. During the summer holidays of the 1990s, the numbers continued to climb. In 2002, Evergreen Playground began to cater to children with special needs. Initially, parents were hesitant, but their concerns quickly dissipated as they witnessed their children thrive. Especially in activities like climbing. Evergreen became the only playground in the area with dedicated support workers for children with disabilities. In 2018, Evergreen Playground provided support to 43 children with special needs. This inclusivity remains a cornerstone of the playground’s mission. Today, Evergreen Playground continues to serve as a vital resource for the community. A place where children of all abilities can explore, create, and connect.
