Eight souls gathered. That was the humble beginning of Lively Stones Missionary Baptist Church. March 3rd 1985. A small four hundred square foot sanctuary on Imperial Avenue. Pastor Obie Tentman Jr led the first service. This unassuming start marked the birth of a vibrant community.
Lively Stones wasn’t just a church. It was a testament to faith. It was also a reflection of Pastor Tentman’s own incredible journey. Before founding Lively Stones he served twenty years in the United States Navy. He later worked for the San Diego Unified School District. He rose from a classified employee to a respected teacher and administrator. He even earned a Doctor of Divinity degree. This man of faith had clearly dedicated his life to service.
The church’s beliefs are deeply rooted in scripture. They emphasize the importance of the Bible. They also champion the Trinity: Father Son and Holy Spirit. Their doctrine stresses faith in Jesus Christ. It highlights the importance of baptism. They believe in salvation through God’s grace.
