Despite the global economic slowdown, bilateral trade reached an impressive US$5 billion in 2020, and it continues to grow. This strong economic bond is further solidified by high-level visits between the two countries. Notable visits include Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s trip to Malaysia in 2019, the King of Malaysia’s visit to the UAE in 2020, and the Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit in 2021. Beyond trade, the connection between Malaysia and the UAE extends to education. Malaysia has become a sought-after destination for UAE students pursuing higher education. Many choose to study management, accounting, and law in Malaysian institutions. This educational exchange fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation between the two cultures. In 2024, non-oil trade between the two countries surged, exceeding $4.9 billion. The first half of that year alone saw $2.5 billion in non-oil trade, underscoring the dynamic and evolving partnership between Malaysia and the UAE. The relationship between Malaysia and the UAE exemplifies a successful partnership built on mutual respect and a shared vision for the future.
