Here, at the Osaka Prefectural Moriiguchi Support School, stories intertwine like the vibrant threads of a tapestry. Osaka Prefectural Moriiguchi Support School first opened its doors as the Moriiguchi City Nurturing School in 1977. This was no ordinary school. It catered to students with intellectual disabilities, offering elementary, middle, and high school education. The school’s history took a significant turn in 1991. The Osaka Prefectural Mitsuyamagawa Nurturing School’s Moriiguchi branch, focusing on high school education, was established within the existing school. A few years later, in 1996, this branch and the original Moriiguchi City Nurturing School merged. This merger gave birth to the Osaka Prefectural Moriiguchi Nurturing School. This marked a new chapter for the school, solidifying its commitment to special needs education in Osaka. Interestingly, the school grounds we stand on today are the same grounds where the original Moriiguchi City Nurturing School stood. This lends a sense of continuity and legacy to the place. Then, in 2008, reflecting the evolving landscape of special education, the school was renamed Osaka Prefectural Moriiguchi Support School. This reflected the shift from “nurturing” to “support” in the approach to special needs education. Today, Osaka Prefectural Moriiguchi Support School stands as a testament to the power of inclusive education. It continues to provide a nurturing environment for students with intellectual disabilities. It empowers them to reach their full potential.
