Is it just me, or does this corner of Lille whisper tales of transformation? Here we stand before the Institut Universitaire de Technologie – Site avenue du Maréchal Foch. This is not just a building. It is a place of learning and growth. It is part of the larger IUT de Lille. The IUT de Lille is an internal institute within the University of Lille.
Originally, the IUTs of Lille were three independent entities. There was IUT A in Villeneuve-d’Ascq. It focused on sciences and technology. Then there was IUT B in Tourcoing. It covered human and social sciences. Finally, there was IUT C in Roubaix. It specialized in law, economics, and management.
In a significant move, the three universities merged in January 2018. They formed the historic University of Lille. Following this, the three IUTs merged in February 2021. This created the unified IUT de Lille. Today, it operates across three sites. These are Villeneuve-d’Ascq, Tourcoing, and Roubaix.
The Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Lille offers a diverse range of programs. These are spread across its three sites. The fields of study include legal careers and data science. Also offered are techniques of marketing and social careers. You could study information and communication or logistics management. Other options are chemistry and biological engineering. Electrical engineering and mechanical engineering are on offer too. So is business administration and computer science. Finally, you could choose physical measurements.
The IUT de Lille primarily awards BUT degrees. These are Bachelor University of Technology degrees. It also awards professional licenses. A national master’s degree is also taught here. It focuses on science, technology, and health. This is taught at the Villeneuve-d’Ascq site. Access to this master’s program is highly selective. The teaching team includes researchers from IUT de Lille. Staff from Polytech Lille also teach. Lecturers come from the University’s Faculty of Science too. Many industry professionals are involved. Several student associations are linked to this master’s program.
The master’s program trains bac+5 level professionals. They become engineers and managers. They specialize in Quality, Hygiene, Safety, and Environment. This is often shortened to QHSE. The specialization focuses on integrated management systems. This is for industrial organizations.
One notable event occurred in September 2022. The IUT de Lille paid tribute to Samuel Paty. He was a teacher assassinated in October 2020. They renamed one of the amphitheaters. It is at the Tourcoing site. This renaming honored his memory.
The Roubaix site has an interesting history. Its building was originally at Rond-Point de l’Europe. In late 2018, new premises were inaugurated. These were on Avenue des Nations-Unies. This is in the heart of the new Roubaix campus. It is part of the University of Lille.
As we conclude our visit here at the Institut Universitaire de Technologie – Site avenue du Maréchal Foch, consider its role. It’s a place where students gain skills. They prepare for the professional world. The IUT de Lille continues to adapt and grow. It provides education across a wide range of disciplines. Its goal is to prepare the next generation for the challenges ahead.
