Curiosity stirred within the small group gathered before True Light Baptist Church. What was the story behind this seemingly ordinary building? True Light Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and community. It’s a place where lives have been transformed and hope has been kindled. The church’s journey began in 1996. Four families, guided by a shared spiritual calling, started meeting. They felt the need for a new fellowship in San Antonio. Their first worship service took place on Palm Sunday, March 23, 1997. The name “True Light” is deeply rooted in scripture. It’s inspired by John 1:9. The verse speaks of Jesus as the true light that illuminates every person. This reflects the church’s belief in Christ as the source of understanding, wisdom, salvation, grace, and love. Initially, the congregation gathered at the Ella Austin Community Center. Later, they found a unique home at Lubaby’s Barbecue. This unexpected setting provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The church continued to grow, and eventually moved to the educational wing of Beacon Hill Baptist Church. Each step in their journey demonstrated the power of faith. They adapted and persevered.
