In 1932, a wealthy American perfume industrialist, Virgile Neal, decided to create his own piece of paradise. He commissioned this exquisite château, inspired by French Renaissance architecture. Neal named his creation “To-Kalon,” Greek for “Beauty”. It reflected the success he’d found with his beauty cream. The name eventually shifted to Château d’Azur. The building itself stands as a testament to the Belle Époque style that flourished along the French Riviera from 1870 to 1914. This era saw architects borrowing elements from classical, gothic, baroque, and Renaissance styles to create unique and opulent homes. Ornate facades, stucco, pediments, colonnades, and bas-reliefs were all part of the grand design. Château d’Azur is no exception, boasting exquisite details. While the château remains a private residence tucked away within a gated community of villas, its presence adds to the rich architectural tapestry of the area.
