It wasn’t until 1998 that it was resurrected and finally completed in 2006. It’s a truly remarkable building – a symbol of Sichuan’s resilience and drive, and it wasn’t built just for show. It was initially created to boost television networks across Chengdu, but it quickly evolved into a hub for so much more. The West Pearl Tower today has a revolving restaurant, offering stunning 360-degree views of the city, and a recreational and commercial mall that pulses with life. The tower’s observation platforms are another reason to visit, with transparent glass flooring that lets you feel the adrenaline rush as you gaze down at the city’s sprawling streets and the panorama of the surrounding landscape. But remember, on December 30th, 2022, the West Pearl Tower officially closed its doors, after weathering the elements for 10 years. So even though you can’t go up the tower anymore, its presence is still felt, a shining reminder of Chengdu’s dynamic spirit and its journey into the future.
