More than a century ago, a beacon of faith was ignited in East Baton Rouge. Greater Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, established in 1893, wasn’t just a place of worship; it was a testament to the vision of a few devoted Christians. They yearned for a space to celebrate their faith according to the scriptures. The church’s founders, with Reverend Washington M. Taylor at the helm, sought to nourish the souls of their congregation. They understood that nurturing faith went hand in hand with education. This led to the establishment of the “Morning Star Baptist Church School of East Baton Rouge”, a testament to their commitment to the community’s growth. Greater Bright Morning Star Baptist Church’s journey has been marked by change and evolution. When the original church building at 7480 Highland Road was no longer sufficient for the growing congregation, a vision for a new beginning emerged. Leaving behind all but a historic cemetery, the congregation set their sights on a new location. In 2006, the doors of their current home at 1002 Mavis Drive swung open, welcoming worshippers to a new era of faith. Greater Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, with its rich history and unwavering commitment to its community, stands as a symbol of enduring faith.
