In the 1960s the Cros-de-Cagnes area saw a population boom. More people needed a larger church. The decision was made to build a new one. After many proposals the first stone of \u00c9glise Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer was laid in 1975.
Its modern design can be disorienting. People expecting a traditional church might be taken aback. The most striking feature is the metal framework. These form the bell tower. Three beautiful bells hang there. They were brought from the church in Cherchell Algeria.
\u00c9glise Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer has three floors. The ground floor houses the church itself. It’s a semi-circular space with room for 300 people. The next two floors contain rooms and offices. These are for parish activities. The top floor features apartments for the clergy.
Father Clovis VERAN oversaw the construction. Bishop MOUISSET of Nice consecrated the church. This happened on May 28 1977. It was one hundred years after the Chapel of St. Pierre des Pêcheurs became a parish.
