Behold Cube One. This striking structure is more than just a building. It’s the cornerstone of the Technische Universität Nürnberg’s new campus. Opened in 2024 it houses the university’s presidency and several departments.

Cube One’s design is remarkably innovative. Its core is made of recycled concrete. All facade elements are prefabricated from PEFC-certified wood. This commitment to sustainability is impressive. It’s a testament to modern eco-conscious architecture. The building boasts a passive house standard. It also features its own photovoltaic system.

The building’s spacious layout is designed for flexibility. Office units can reach up to 200 square meters. They are designed without corridors for efficient space utilization. Large windows open the building to the street inviting visitors inside. A green facade helps regulate the microclimate and creates a sheltered outdoor area.

Cube One is more than just an environmentally friendly structure. It signifies a new era for the university. It represents a commitment to modern teaching and interdisciplinary research. The building’s flexible design reflects the university’s adaptability to future needs. This building is not just a home for students and faculty. It’s a symbol of progress and a dynamic vision for the future of higher education in Nuremberg.

The opening ceremony in October 2024 was attended by high-profile guests. Bavarian Minister-President Dr Markus Söder was present. So was Minister of Science and Art Markus Blume. Their presence highlighted the significance of this project for the region and the state of Bavaria. Cube One is a building that looks to the future. It’s a beacon of innovation and sustainable practices. It’s a place where education and research thrive in harmony with the environment.

The campus’s development continues. Another building is being constructed nearby. This demonstrates the university’s growth and ambition for the future. Eventually the campus will house approximately 6000 students and 200 professors. The vision is a fully functional mini-campus. This will embody the principles of scientific excellence interdisciplinarity and the activity areas that the UTN strives for. This is an exciting time for the university and the city of Nuremberg. Cube One stands as a symbol of that exciting future.
