Evergreen Lutheran Church operates the last LCMS Lutheran school within Detroit’s city limits. Both the church and school function on a tight budget. They work tirelessly to keep their doors open. Leading this charge is Pastor Bill Danowski. He has faithfully served Evergreen Lutheran Church since 1991. He not only cares for his congregation. He also champions the Lutheran school. Pastor Danowski recognizes the school’s vital role as a “Beacon of Hope and Light” in the community. The church’s influence extends beyond spiritual guidance. It offers stability and support to many inner-city youth. Evergreen Lutheran Church’s commitment to education is evident in its school. The school serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. With a small student body of just 16 students, the school maintains a low student-to-teacher ratio of 3:1. This allows for personalized attention and fosters a nurturing learning environment. The church building itself holds a rich history. It underwent significant alterations in 1949, overseen by architect J. Ivan Dise. The church boasts ten pictorial stained-glass windows. These windows depict various religious themes. These themes include music, flowers, the Sacraments, the Holy Spirit, and the Nativity. Evergreen Lutheran Church’s location at 8680 Evergreen Avenue makes it an accessible haven for the community.
