Amidst the tranquility of Bas-Warneton, lies the Bas-Warneton (Neerwaasten) Communal Cemetery. It’s a place where history whispers from the stones. Bas-Warneton (Neerwaasten) Communal Cemetery stands as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II. The cemetery holds the remains of Commonwealth soldiers who fought bravely in the defense of Belgium. The British Expeditionary Force played a crucial role in the later stages of Belgium’s defense against the German invasion of May 1940. Many soldiers lost their lives during the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Bas-Warneton (Neerwaasten) Communal Cemetery serves as the final resting place for 53 Commonwealth burials from World War II. Six of these brave soldiers remain unidentified. The cemetery is located 12 kilometers southeast of Ieper town center. You can find it on a road that leads from the Rijselstraat N336. This road connects Ieper to Bas-Warneton and continues on to Lille. Bas-Warneton (Neerwaasten) Communal Cemetery is accessible to all, with wheelchair access available through the main entrance.
