Was Municipal Kaohsiung Elementary School always here? Let’s uncover the story behind this place. Municipal Kaohsiung Elementary School is more than just a school. It is a place of learning and growth.

The Kaohsiung Japanese School once resided within the Kaohsiung Municipal Lingya District Jhong-Jheng Elementary School. This was in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The school’s address was No.100, Furen Rd., Lingya District, Kaohsiung City 802, Taiwan.

Before that, it was in Sanmin District. Imagine the changes it has seen. Enrollment numbers shifted considerably from 1990 to 2010. The final day at the Sanmin campus was July 19, 2014.

The history of Jian-Guo Elementary School on this land is interesting. Before Jian-Guo Elementary School existed, there was Shu-Der Girls’ High School for fifty years. This was during the Japanese Colonial period. After Taiwan was restored, Kaohsiung Girls’ High School was here. It was later called Hsin-Hsing Junior High School. It became Kaohsiung Girls’ Normal School for two years before Jian-Guo Elementary School was founded.

Mr. Hsi-Feng Tsai was assigned to prepare for the school in 1954. In September 1955, the school opened. It was named Kaohsiung Municipal Jian-Guo School. Mr. Hsi-Bo Chou was the first principal.

Mrs. Hua-Nan Wang became the second principal in September 1957. In August 1968, the school became Kaohsiung Chieh-Kou Elementary School. Mrs. Wen-Yuan Wang was the third principal in May 1973. School lunches started in October 1982.

Mr. Chung-To Wu became the fourth principal in August 1985. He retired in August 1989. Mr. Kung-Kuo Chen was assigned as principal in August 1989. Fourteen dangerous classrooms were removed in August 1992. The PU Stadium was then built.

Mr. Chen moved to Yen-Cheng Elementary School. In February 1997, Mr. Kun-Lien Chu from Chung-Shan Elementary School became the current principal. He had been a teacher for twelve years. He also headed a department for eleven and a half years.

After forty-two years, the classrooms were old. Nearby elementary schools had new facilities. The community had more elders and fewer newborns. This decreased the number of students. But this situation has improved. The number of pupils is now stable.

Municipal Kaohsiung Elementary School stands as a testament to time. It has evolved alongside its community. It is a place where memories are made and futures begin.
