In 1973 a pivotal moment occurred. Samuel Young visited relatives in New York City. He and Hsu Hung gathered 25 Chinese Adventists. They held worship services in Chinese at Mary Ng’s home. This humble beginning marked the genesis of the New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church.

The New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church is a testament to faith and perseverance. It began as small gatherings in private homes. Later it rented space in a Spanish-speaking Adventist Church. Winston Tan led the congregation initially. Tseng Kwang Hong from Taiwan became the pastor in 1982. The church tirelessly sought a permanent home.

In 1987 the New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church was officially organized. In 1990 Tseng Kwang Hong returned to Taiwan leaving the church without a pastor. Ly Quoc Hang now known as Frank Loi arrived from Vietnam. He became the church’s new pastor. Dr Liew Enn Kong and Jackson Lee served as elders. By 1996 the church joined the New York Conference.

Growth necessitated a larger space. The New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church’s current building at 7606 41st Avenue Elmhurst NY 11373 was constructed. This three-story building was completed in 1999. A Thanksgiving service celebrated its opening. The building cost 1500000 US dollars. The Chan Shun Foundation contributed 600000 US dollars.

The New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church’s sanctuary on the third floor seats 300. The basement houses a fellowship hall canteen and areas for cultural activities. The ground floor includes the pastor’s office a Christian reading room and a community center. Six classrooms offices and guest rooms occupy the second floor. By 2002 membership reached 90. In 2013 membership stood at 106. Currently John Lee Kam Hong serves as pastor. The New York Seventh Day Adventist Chinese Church continues to thrive a beacon of faith in the heart of New York City. The church remains a vibrant hub for the Chinese Adventist community. It serves as a spiritual center for fellowship and outreach.
