They later moved to 900 Franklin Street. The church faced adversity. A fire damaged the building in 1947. Services continued at Dunbar High School during repairs. The church reopened in 1948. This time to Klein and Bissell Streets. A new building was constructed. This building reflects the community’s dedication and faith. A successful bond drive financed the project. The mortgage was paid off in 1971. The Southern Missionary Baptist Church continued to thrive. Under subsequent pastors the church expanded its ministries. It added programs and facilities. They even purchased additional property. The Southern Missionary Baptist Church continues to serve its community. Its mission remains focused on faith love and service.
