Stained glass and well-stocked shelves what more could you ask for? That’s how some describe the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library. It stands as one of San Diego’s most visually appealing and well-equipped library branches.
The Scripps Miramar Ranch Library is located on Scripps Lake Drive. You can find it a short distance west of Miramar Lake’s entrance. It is one of San Diego Public Library’s 35 branches. This library offers many services.
Inside the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library, you will find a dedicated team. Five full-time staff members are ready to help. Ten part-time employees also contribute. Many volunteers support the library’s mission too.
The library provides many resources. Computer catalogs offer access to the San Diego Public Library system. You can also find information about other libraries in the county. These include public and academic institutions.
Need a computer? The Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation Computer Laboratory is the place to go. It provides both Macintosh and IBM-compatible computers. Printers are available too. A video previewing area sits just outside. Besides the lab, there are more internet-connected computers in the library. All these computers have filters to ensure safe internet access. The library also offers free Wi-Fi.
The Children’s Area is full of resources. Books, magazines, audio cassettes, videos, and DVDs are available. The Children’s Amphitheater is perfect for storytelling.
The Great Room has a vaulted ceiling. It houses the fiction collection and new book displays. You can also find audio cassettes, videos, DVDs, and CDs here. The Magazine and Newspaper Collection and the Reference Section are also in the Great Room. The adult reading area has a fireplace. The adult non-fiction and biography sections are nearby. Teens can find their collection between the Adult Biography section and the Children’s Amphitheater.
Do not miss the Tower Room. This small space is beneath the library’s tower. It is perfect for group study.
Grace’s Book Nook is near the magazine collection. This bookstore sells used books. It is run by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library. All proceeds support the library.
The library has a courtyard with tables and benches. It is a secured space for outdoor reading. The names of library donors are inscribed on pavers.
The Community Room can hold 300 people. It is used for group programs and events. It features a stage, grand piano, and video projection. There is also a catering kitchen. The Seminar Room can hold 30 people. It has video projection. It can be divided into two smaller meeting rooms.
Before you leave, you can buy duck food. It is available inside Grace’s Book Nook. You can feed the ducks at nearby Lake Miramar. The Scripps Miramar Ranch Library truly offers something for everyone.
