Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium

Opened in 1968, the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium stands before us, a hub of education and activity in Letter, Seelze. The school is named after the influential German writer, scientist, and revolutionary, Georg Büchner. Around 1300 students learn and grow within these walls, guided by over 100 teachers. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium has seen significant expansions over the years. In 2001, a new building added 1700 square meters of learning space. This expansion, costing over 4.6 million Euros, provided much-needed classrooms and facilities. The school offers impressive sports facilities too. There’s a large stadium with a running track, playing fields, a handball court, and even a beach volleyball area. A swimming pool is conveniently located nearby, and the school provides equipment for rowing and skiing. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium boasts a modern media center, a cafeteria, and a library. A large forum provides seating for up to 350 people, hosting school gatherings and events. More recent additions include temporary classrooms, a response to increased student numbers. The school is constantly evolving, with ongoing renovations and new construction planned to further enhance the learning environment. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It offers a dynamic learning environment, including bilingual classes in German and English. Students can choose from various languages like Latin, French, Italian, and Spanish. The school emphasizes career preparation, offering vocational seminars and internships. In 2003, the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium received recognition as an “Environmental School in Europe” for its commitment to sustainability. It was again awarded in 2007. This accolade highlights the school’s dedication to environmental education and its efforts to create a greener future. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium has a history of excellence, demonstrated by numerous awards. Its robotics teams achieved international recognition, winning the RoboCup World Championship three times. The school fosters global connections through partnerships with schools in countries like Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, the USA, and France. These partnerships offer valuable cultural exchange opportunities for students and staff. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium is supported by a dedicated Friends association.
