Tucked away near the railway sidings, Ridgeons Centenary Park marks a special spot. Ridgeons Centenary Park commemorates the humble beginnings of Ridgeons timber and builders merchants. It began in 1911, just 50 feet from where the park now stands. The park itself, featuring a sculptural oak seat and a carved roundel, dates to 2011. It was commissioned by Ridgeons to celebrate their centenary. The carved roundel bears a quote from the founder, Cyril Ridgeon, a testament to the company’s family-run history. The artwork was created by Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley, with letter carving by Tom Perkins. A plaque installed in 2017 officially named the area “Ridgeons Centenary Park”. This small park offers a quiet moment of reflection, a reminder of the growth and legacy of a local business interwoven with Cambridge’s history.
